Autumn at the Park

As October rushes past, the autumn feeling can be felt from the chill in the air, the abounding grey skies, dark evenings and falling yellow leaves which line the pavements with a splash of colour.

In between lectures, I always find it a treat to stroll around Victoria Park, literally two minutes’ walk from the Guildhall. This hidden paradise is a great place to get some air and see nature in the city. Squirrels can be seen jumping between the trees and digging for nuts, there are several water fountains and monuments to admire, and plenty of benches to sit quietly for a few minutes. Animal lovers and children alike will enjoy the miniature zoo at the centre of the park, which has guinea pigs, rabbits and a variety of exotic birds to admire.

Check out the park if you have a while spare – I always find it a really relaxing place to unwind between studying!

Course, Other University Factors

Welcome to my World…

I’m so sorry for not writing, it has been a bit of a rollercoaster for me this year and finding time is a challenge these days.

I’ve been working at LEGOLAND since June as my placement, doing full time hours and its been fun (most days) but its coming to an end. LEGOLAND is only open till November. So for the past few weeks I have been looking for a new job, a new placement and temporary work. Its been crazy, but lets say I’ve had two interviews in a week, so looking promising.

I’ve never really had a problem with interviews, not sure if you can guess or not, but I’m quite good at talking. I’m quite confident and am happy to talk my way out of anything.

At the moment it’s between a placement on Reception (which I’ve always wanted to do) or trainee manager in a pub (if they ever get back to me). Both would look good for my placement year but now I’m not sure which one I want. They both have pros and cons and sometimes its not up to me to decide.

I just want a fresh start on my placement, I know the first 6 months have been good for me to develop and learn new skills but its not something I can grow in nor does it compete with my course mates. I also think my parents and lecturers are quite disappointed, as well as myself, in where I have ended up.

But working throughout the summer, I have missed the sun, and well me and the boyfriend have finally booked our holiday and go away in 18 days! (not counting or anything) Hopefully a nice break and a fresh start are just round the corner…

A New Look in Park Building

Final year is certainly a challenging time. Not only do I need to continue the research for my dissertation (having just handed in a 2000 word starting piece), I need to keep up with my other demanding units. More than this, the big question is the one which most people try not to think about while at university. Sadly, in my last year, this question in now unavoidable: what comes next?

Taking a PGCE is something I have always considered, and after talking to a careers advisor at Purple Door I realise I need to start seriously thinking about this if I wish to apply for one.

It’s also impossible to believe that we are now approaching Week 5, thus I am nearly half way through the first term!

Park Building, despite being currently covered in scaffolding for repair work, has undergone some modernisation on the inside. Specifically, there is a completely renewed café on the ground floor (Boutique Expresso) and shiny new toilets as well. Though the café looks undoubtedly very modern now, I sometimes miss seeing the café as it was when I started my degree two long years ago.
I guess just like Park Building, I too need to start thinking about moving on.
